A Voice Silenced: Veteran Journalist Abdi Kemal Laid to Rest

Sad news has emerged with the passing of Abdi Kemal, a respected journalist who spent many years living and working in Canada.
Abdi Kemal was a founding member of the Ethiopian Journalists Association in Canada, playing a key role in strengthening the community of Ethiopian media professionals abroad. Over the course of his career, he made lasting contributions to Ethiopian Television, where he steadily rose through the ranks from reporter to editor-in-chief.
Following political changes in Ethiopia, he relocated to Canada with his family and lived there for several years. However, due to ongoing health issues, he eventually returned to his home country.
In recent years, he had been residing in Addis Ababa. He passed away this morning, and his funeral was held the same day at Kolfe Muslim Cemetery.
Abdi Kemal is survived by his wife and three children.
The Board of Directors of the Ethiopian Journalists Association in Canada expressed deep sorrow over the loss of their colleague and founding member, extending heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew him.
